A shared washing machine booking sheet reserves an appliance window and names the person responsible for unloading it. Use it when several household members or workers rely on the same machine. Record actual completion and changes as well as the original plan. Reserving a time does not guarantee the programme will finish then or authorize use beyond the appliance instructions.
Identify the shared constraint
A machine can be unavailable because it is running, waiting to be unloaded or reserved for another accepted task. A calendar that records only cycle start times misses the handover gap. Include the time needed to make the appliance available for its next agreed use.
Ask each user which proposed windows are flexible. Do not allow a household member's tentative plan to appear as a confirmed booking that others must work around. Use a clear distinction between requested and accepted slots.
Copy the booking sheet
| Field | Booking information |
|---|---|
| Appliance ID | The machine this booking concerns |
| Date | Day of intended use |
| Requested start | Preferred time |
| Acceptance status | Requested, confirmed, changed or cancelled |
| Load/contact reference | Person responsible for the accepted load |
| Programme estimate | Actual displayed or instruction-based planning duration |
| Unload owner | Person who has accepted that task |
| Expected release | When the next user may check availability |
| Actual release/update | What happened and who was notified |
Keep the load description general enough for coordination. Other users do not need a detailed list of someone's personal garments.
Agree changes before occupying the next slot
If the cycle takes longer than expected, notify the affected contact and update the release estimate. Do not select a different programme merely to make the timetable look achievable. Garment and appliance instructions remain the governing information.
A person who reserved the machine should arrange unloading responsibility if they will leave before completion. Another worker's presence in the home does not automatically transfer that task to them. Record acceptance rather than assuming someone will notice the finished cycle.
When a load is cancelled, release the slot clearly. A crossed-out note visible to only one person can leave others treating an empty machine as unavailable. Use one current sheet or shared message location so users see the same status.
Fictional worked example
In a fictional home, Rina has an accepted morning booking, and a helper is expected to use the machine afterward. Rina's cycle finishes later than planned. She updates the household contact and confirms that she will unload it herself.
The helper changes the order of another already-agreed task while waiting for a confirmed release. The later laundry load is started only after checking that enough visit time and drying space remain. The booking sheet helps manage the clash; it does not make waiting time free or add unrelated work automatically.
Review repeated clashes
If the same two requests compete every week, change the routine rather than repeatedly asking one person to hurry. Consider a different day, a narrower accepted load or a more realistic gap between bookings. Discuss any effect on the household-help schedule and full quote.
This sheet is not a maintenance log or permission to use a faulty appliance. Stop the affected task and contact the owner when equipment concerns arise. Keep booking coordination separate from technical decisions about repairs or safe operation.
